Here, the uniform consists
Of ratty t-shirts and tattered jeans.
Work gloves and paint-covered shoes.
Sawdust and powertools are your only accessories,
And blisters, splinters and scrapes are considered the height of fashion.
Your arms will ache,
Your feet will be sore,
And you will be exhausted beyond belief.
But nothing can compare
To the sense of accomplishment
That accompanies the completion
Of a tech theatre workday.
Actors don their costumes,
the beginning of the end is underway.
Pale green lights set a calm scene on the stage.
Makeup opens eyes and darkens faces.
Let the chaos ensue.
Freshman fret, asking if it's hard.
With veteran kindness, seniors tell them to loosen up.
Finish the rituals.
Ready the voices.
Curtain up.
